Als im Sommer 2021 die Amerikaner überraschend aus Afghanistan abziehen und die Taliban dort wieder an die Macht kommen, ist Manizha Bakhtari Botschafterin in Wien. Seitdem repräsentiert sie, zumindest auf dem Papier, ein Land, dessen Regierung sie nicht unterstützt. Manizha Bakhtari, befindet sich seit der Machtübernahme der Taliban in einer bizarren Situation: Sie vertritt ein Land, dessen alte Regierung geflohen ist und dessen neue Taliban-Regierung international nicht anerkannt wird.
Trotz finanzieller und logistischer Isolation trotzt Manizha Bakhtari den Taliban und setzt ihren Kampf für die Rechte afghanischer Frauen und Mädchen als Botschafterin fort. Mit ihrem „Daughters-Program“ ermöglicht sie afghanischen Schulmädchen eine geheime Ausbildung und als Botschafterin organisiert sie den politischen Widerstand gegen die Taliban. Unter immer schwierigeren Bedingungen wird sie zu einer der wichtigsten internationalen Sprecherinnen für die Frauen Afghanistans, getreu ihrem Motto: ‘Peace is not the absence of war, but the presence of justice’.
Nah dran an seiner Protagonistin vermittelt der Film ihren ungeheuren Mut und ihren Einsatz und zeigt eine Frau, die ihrem Land und ihren Leuten zutiefst verbunden und doch so weit von ihnen entfernt ist.

Unter dem Motto: Ein Abend für Frauen, Mut und Solidarität zeigen wir in Kooperation mit dem Soroptimist International Club Traunsee den Film „Die letzte Botschafterin“ – ein eindrucksvolles Zeichen für Bewusstmachen, Stellungnehmen und Handeln. Vor und nach dem Film lädt der Soroptimist Club zu einem Buffet ein, dessen Erlös wohltätigen, regionalen Projekten für Frauen und Mädchen zugutekommt. Ein Abend voller Engagement, Inspiration und Solidarität.

When the Americans unexpectedly withdraw from Afghanistan in the summer of 2021 and the Taliban return to power there, Manizha Bakhtari is ambassador in Vienna. Since then, she has represented, at least on paper, a country whose government she does not support. Manizha Bakhtari has found herself in a bizarre situation since the Taliban took power: she represents a country whose old government has fled and whose new Taliban government is not internationally recognized. Despite financial and logistical isolation, Manizha Bakhtari defies the Taliban and continues her fight for the rights of Afghan women and girls as an ambassador. With her “Daughters Program,” she enables Afghan schoolgirls to receive a secret education, and as an ambassador, she organizes political resistance against the Taliban. Under increasingly difficult conditions, she becomes one of the most important international spokeswomen for the women of Afghanistan, true to her motto: “Peace is not the absence of war, but the presence of justice.” Close to its protagonist, the film conveys her tremendous courage and commitment and shows a woman who is deeply connected to her country and her people, yet so far away from them.

Before and after the film, the Soroptimist Club invites you to a buffet, the proceeds of which will go to charitable regional projects for women and girls. An evening full of commitment, inspiration, and solidarity.
